A GIDEA Park centenarian was “over the moon” about her friends and family coming together to celebrate her birthday last week.

Doris Veale, of Beaumont Close, celebrated her century on her birthday last Wednesday (January 19) with thirty people, as well as a lunch on the previous Sunday at Romford Golf Club.

Her niece Sylvia Towler said: “She had a great time, especially when the Recorder photographer showed up. It was a really lovely day, she was over the moon.”

Mrs Veale was born in Kensington and married her husband Harold in 1932. They managed several pubs together including the Crown and Crooked Billet in Woodford Green before he passed away in 1989.

Mayor of Havering Cllr Pam Light stopped by during the celebrations for a chat and to give Mrs Veale some flowers.
