LEONARD CHAPLIN
FORMER ROAD SAFETY OFFICER LEONARD CHAPLIN passed away aged 99 Leonard Chaplin was Road Safety Officer at Havering starting in 1966 under Charles Hackett. He was very happy in his chosen career in road safety. Len was Secretary at ROSPA (The Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents) for 13 years from 1973-1984. This involved liaising with Scotland Yard on road safety matters, as well as regular radio interviews and newspaper articles in the Romford Recorder. He was passionate in his commitment to trying to make our roads safer. Len's former work colleague Ray Crane described him as a lovely man and a thorough Gentleman. He had a joke for every occasion and could keep people laughing for hours. Beloved husband of Joan (deceased) and father to Linda and Julia, grandfather to Gemma, Lauren and James, great grandfather to Estie, brother, uncle to his many nieces and nephews and a dear friend to many. A truly wonderful man, who will be sadly missed by all. A service will be held at Southend Crematorium on 5th March 2024 at 11.20am. Donations welcome to Little Havens Hospice.
