Romford’s MP showed his support for a new project to map and preserve the historic synagogues of Europe which launched in Parliament this week.
Commissioned by the Foundation of Jewish heritage, the mapping project inventories 3,318 synagogues mostly pre-dating the Second World War in 48 countries across Europe.
Mr Rosindell said: “I was delighted to be able to attend the launch of the Foundation for Jewish Heritage’s Historic Synagogues mapping project launch and show my support.
“This is not just about Jewish heritage, it is Europe’s cultural and historical heritage too, and it is disappearing.”
Historian Simon Schama and TV presenter Natasha Kaplinsky, who last year received an OBE for services to Holocaust commemoration, joined Mr Rosindell at the launch.
Speaking to guests Mr Schama said: “Synagogues are always places of gathering so when we remember and try to restore places not affected by the Holocaust we are essentially putting back together memory of living communities, even when Jews are absent.”
