Rainham residents will pay their respects to the fallen war heroes and celebrate 100 years since the end of World War One with a Remembrance day parade and service.

Large poppies and vintage signs have been put up across the village in the run-up to the service, and on Sunday, November 11, a parade will start at Rainham Working Mens Club in Upminster Road South before heading to the war memorial.

This year there will be performances from musicians Nick Goldsmith (trumpet) and Lauren Cleland (saxophone).

Lightnin Drama will also be staging a WW1 tribute show on Saturday, November 10, at Rainham Methodist Church Hall, to celebrate a century of Armistice.

Sue Ospreay, from Lightnin Drama, who have been the organisers of the Remembrance parade for the last three years said: “I am just so passionate about both wars and the sacrifices, normal, everyday folk made to give us a better life.

“I think it is really important that in particular the young people, are aware of the opportunities we have now because of the sacrifices they made.

“This year it is going to be an even more important parade because it is 100 years since the end of the war, and I am very grateful to everyone who has contributed to the displays and taken time to help honour our heroes.”
