A Collier Row historian will be sharing his knowledge about the Titanic and the 300 artefacts he has collected at a talk next week.

David Lawrence, 45, a self-confessed “Titanorak”, will be sharing his knowledge about the history of the ill-fated ship, its creation, unknown facts and stories at Collier Library on March 21.

The event will mark the 100-anniversary since the sinking of the Titanic in April, and David will also share his experience of helping the BBC and ITV with filming documentaries about the ship, one featuring TV star Len Goodman.

David said: “I’ve collected over 300 artefacts, including a postcard sent from the Titanic and an eggcup taken off the Titanic prior to her maiden voyage in 1912.

“My high points are meeting Prince Charles and Camilla at one of my exhibitions and explaining about the Titanic.

“My lecture will give people a chance to get up close to artefacts from the Titanic as well as get information about the 100th anniversary events happening in Belfast and Southampton.”

You will have the chance to buy a DVD about the ship, and all money raised through the sale of DVDs and postcards will go towards restoring the White Star Line lifeboat.

The lecture will be from 7pm, and tickets cost 5 for library members or 5.50 for non-members.

Booking is essential by calling 01708 434936.
