The Swingalls

A man is hoping to encourage people to dance to swing music when he launches a monthly night in Romford

Brian Moore, from Romford, is set to start the monthly sessions, called Swingalls, at the Romford United Services Social Club in Mawney Road, on Friday, October 14.

He said: “People can go to the Queen’s Theatre or another theatre and listen to a swing band, but you cannot get up close and personal with the band.”

The monthly sessions will include the resident band The Jeff Short Big Swing Dance Band performing songs by Glenn Miller, Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Sammy Davis Jnr and lots more.

Audiences can also expect music and songs made famous by The Beatles, Shirley Bassey, Tom Jones and Abba.

Brian said: “Both old and young will experience a wall of sound performed live to just sit and listen to, or to dance to. With the popularity of Strictly Come Dancing, this is an opportunity to enjoy and participate in a similar evening.”

Brian came up with the idea of the monthly event as part of a lifelong wish to stage regular big band dance nights.

He is hoping that the event, which has been five weeks in the making, will bring all generations together.
