An amateur drama group is proving that family entertainment is not just for Christmas.

The Oglethorpe Players are preparing to perform their latest production called Red Riding Hood and the Addams Family at the Brandon Groves Community Theatre in South Ockendon on Friday March 22 at 8pm and Saturday March 23 at 2pm and 6pm.

Lesley Dunn, a member of the group said: “It is good old fashioned family entertainment, it is a bit like a pantomime.

“The audience can look forward to booing the Big Bad Wolf and cheering on Red Riding Hood.”

The hilarious original play is written by Gerry Sweeney, who is the writer behind the community plays at Queen’s Theatre, Hornchurch.

There will be opportunities to boo the evil squire and cheer on the lovely Red Riding Hood as she battles the dodgy Mod, Wolfie.

You will see Maisey fight for the attentions of ‘Chip Hawks’ the woodcutter and Morticia, Gomez and Uncle Fester look forward to spending the villagers rents. BUT.....

Will there be enough collected?

Will Grandma ever workout ebay? Will Lurch get the villagers inside the spooky house?

All these questions will be answered during the production.

Tickets are £6 for adults and £3 for children from 01708 221923.
