A young Romford singer who has learnt how to use her nerves to help her perform has made it through to the next round of Factor Essex.
Jessica Packard-White from Crow Lane impressed the judges of Factor Essex, a singing competition that mirrors the style of hit ITV show The X Factor.
For her first audition Jessica sang Somebody to Love by Queen with three other girls.
“Before performing on stage with my group for the first part of the audition I was more excited than nervous which is weird for me as I’m a very nervous person,” said Jessica.
“But I felt like the two girls I was with really boosted my confidence.
“When going on to sing my solo song On My Own I was nervous, but I’ve learnt how to use my nerves during my song and push through.”
The 16-year-old singer said that artists such as Ariana Grande, Michael Jackson, Adele and Matt Terry inspire her most.
“We had our first live show on Sunday, October 14 where I sang Dirty Diana by Michael Jackson,” she said.
“I got some very good comments which was lovely to hear, like ‘performance of the night’ and ‘you owned that stage’ - which was crazy to hear for me.”
Factor Essex has seen various local artists rise to fame, such as Celebrity Big Brother champion and X Factor finalist Ryan Clark, along with The Voice Kids winner Jess Folley.
Proud mum Kelly White added: “She is fighting so hard to do her best as singing and performing is her life.
“She and her mentor Joe Fryd, work so well together and have the same ideas.”
Speaking about what she has learnt from the competition so far, Jessica said: “I’ve learnt that it’s not always about having the best voice or dressing the best.
“It’s just about being able to connect with the audience and really entertain them.
“By doing songs that I never really sing like Dirty Diana, I literally had to perform and get into the character for it. This really pushed me but also has helped a lot to boost my confidence and its only week one.”
Jessica will next be performing on Sunday, October 28 for Halloween and rock week.
