A former GP surgery in Hornchurch has been approved for residential use.

A planning application was sent to Havering Council in January by Tania Rahman to change the use of 105 Stanley Road.

Dr Rahman previously ran the South End Road and Stanley Road surgery along with Chi Yuen Tsoi, out of this building and the property at 482 Southend Road.

The surgery, with more than 5,000 registered patients on its books, shut down in July last year. The Stanley Road property has reportedly been vacant since.

A planning statement attached with the proposal stated that the building was earlier used for residential purposes and was transformed into a surgery. It is now being moved back to being a home.

Patients registered with the surgery, it said, have since registered at neighbouring GP practices and Dr Rahman has also moved to a local GP practice to continue to offer services.

It added that Dr Rahman initially tried to find ways to continue using the property for her surgery but only “limited interest” was received for a possible merger.

The statement said that the property is owned by Dr Rahman and her family. Her elderly parents, it said, are looking to sell the place to generate some income for their retirement.

The site is located in a residential area to the south of Hornchurch town centre close to the Tube station.

The application was approved by the council on March 27.
