A councillor stepped in to aid traffic flow after a car overturned in a busy Tower Hamlets road.

Cllr Maium Talukdar, deputy mayor and cabinet member for education in Tower Hamlets, rushed to help after the incident in Leman Street this morning (November 10).

Cllr Talukdar said: "I wasn’t there when it happened, I just saw a car upside down.

"As soon as I saw that there was a car upside down, I made sure the guy that was driving was coming out of the car.

"He was bleeding and we had to call the ambulance and police. I made sure the opposite car wasn’t hit on the other side.”

Met Police were called at 12.24am, the force said.

A spokesperson added: "There were no life changing or life threatening injuries."

A 23 year-old man was arrested on suspicion of a drink driving offence, they added.

Enquiries surrounding this morning's events are ongoing.
