A former Romford Co-op is set to become a new Asda Express after a premises licence was given the green light by Havering Council.

The site, located in South Street, is earmarked for one of Asda’s new Express stores, with the supermarket chain announcing last year how it intends on opening 300 across London, Wiltshire, Essex and Surrey by the end of 2026.

Smaller than the main supermarkets, the Express range stock around 3,000 products as well as hot and cold ‘food for now’ options from Asda and partners including Leon.

The premises licence was filed with Havering Council to enable the proposed Asda Express to sell alcohol.

The council has now confirmed that the application has been approved, with an Asda spokesperson also saying it has been made aware of the decision.

The spokesperson added Asda will not be commenting until it has more details to share on the store opening.
