Thousands of devoted dance music lovers braved the downpour and descended onto Damyns Hall Aerodrome for the second incarnation of We Are FSTVL.
Launched last year to a major sell-out success, 2014’s offering drew in some of the best electronic acts from around the world to a play to the crowds in a quiet corner of Upminster.
Dance music fans of all tastes were well catered for among the 200 acts present, with global superstar Fatboy Slim and Ibiza legend Richie Hawtin sharing the stages with 2013 breakthrough Grammy-nominated act Disclosure and Radio 1 DJ Annie Mac.
Chadwell Heath resident Karl Peppitt said: “It was great having such a fantastic lineup on my doorstep; I can’t believe its taken so long for me to see Fatboy Slim. He finished off the weekend with one of the best performances I have ever seen.”
From winning Best New Festival at the UK Festival Awards 2013, We Are FSTVL expanded this year to two packed days of more than 200 top dance artists spread across 18 stages.
There was a bit of a wet start to the bank holiday weekend, as the former WWI airfield became a giant mudslide on the Saturday. However, revellers were treated to some beautiful sunshine on Sunday, which finished with a spectacular display full of fireworks, flamethrowers and lasers during the Praise You star’s closing set.
Festival goers who plumped for a VIP upgrade could jump into a hot tub to escape the weather, and get pampered at an on-site beauty parlour.
