William Murphy was crowned champion after a thrilling ‘Australian Open’ final at David Lloyd Gidea Park.

Murphy beat Thomas Fennessy 10-8 in the red final, after some long rallies, following their semi-final wins over Josh Humphreys and Leo Hewitt.

James Jefford defeated Gene Swain in two sets in the orange final, winning the second set 13-11.

And Charlotte Wallis came out on top in the yellow event, after a close-fought group phase.

Wallis and Sallyann Jefford won their semi-finals against Bradley Murphy and Hamzah Kader, before Wallis battled back from 3-2 down to win the final by a 4-3 margin.

The club will host their ‘French Open’ tournament in early June and coaches Ben and Simon Levi said: “It was fantastic to see so many children playing some great tennis, and most importantly with a smile on their faces.”
