East Div 1: Upminster 2 West Herts II 4

Upminster paid the price for a host of missed chances as they slipped to a 4-2 defeat against West Herts in East Division One.

The hosts spurned three good opportunities early on before Dave Hadsley netted from a shot corner.

The visitors levelled from a corner before half time and converted another after the restart.

But Steve Wright squared matters from another corner, before West Herts struck twice more to seal the points.

Captain Wright said: “It puts us in trouble, but with three games to go we need to target four to six points to stay up.”

The seconds wanted revenge against a Colchester side that had already beaten them this season and started well at the Garrison.

Jamie O’Dell and Mike Scrivener linked well up front and almost created an opener before Colchester beat the wrong-footed Jared Ford at a short corner.

The hosts doubled their lead with a reverse stick shot from the top of the D, but O’Dell replied with a brilliant solo effort before half time.

Man of the match Ollie Marston shone in the second half and his pass was deflected in by Scrivener to level.

But further chances were kept out by an in-form home keeper and Colchester scrambled a late winner.

The fifths had to work hard for a 4-2 win over basement boys Chelmsford.

Guy Robertson opened the scoring with a crisp strike on five minutes and the hosts doubled their lead from a short corner.

But Chelmsford replied from a short corner and punished poor Upminster defending at another set-piece to level before half time.

Will Topp put Upminster back in front after the restart and finished off another good move soon after to secure the points.
