Lakeside Hammers will hope to thwart World Champion Tai Woffinden as he leads the Wolverhampton Wolves into action tonight at the Arena Essex Raceway.

The 22-year-old is only a point off Greg Hancock in a bid to make it back-to-back world titles this season and will be out to stop the Hammers building on their 47-43 win over Elite League leaders King’s Lynn Stars a fortnight ago.

The Hammers will be without injured skipper Davey Watt, and have booked his Aussie compatriot Rory Schlein as a guest, while Wolves are minus Poland’s Piotr Pawlicki and Dane Jacob Thorssell, with Birmingham’s Danny King booked to replace the former, as rider replacement covers Thorssell’s absence.

And Lakeside promoter Jon Cook knows his second-placed side need a three-point win to maintain their play-off push.

“After the team’s heroics to beat King’s Lynn here two weeks ago we need to keep that buzz going over these next two months of qualification,” said Cook.

Lakeside: Schlein, Lawson, Bech, Bridger, Karlsson, Morley. Ellis

Wolves: Woffinden, Proctor, King, Wells, Thorssell R/R, Jacobs, Perry
