Club seniors and juniors in action
Essex Spartans are ready for a double header this weekend, as the senior and junior teams both see action on Sunday May 11.
The senior team will be looking to follow up their trouncing of the Maidstone Pumas with a similarly strong victory over new boys London Hornets.
Their game kicks off at 2.30pm at Hannakins Farm, Billericay and head coach Sean Benton said: “We have worked hard in the two weeks since the Maidstone game to be ready for the next challenge.
“The Hornets are brand new and an unknown quantity, but I am confident we have a game plan in place that will allow us to compete strongly.
“We are taking nothing for granted and know we will have to work hard if we want to win two in a row. The support against Maidstone was fantastic, and I hope we’ll see a similarly impressive number of supporters this Sunday.”
Before that, the junior team will play their first competitive fixture for several years.
The 2014 season will see the Spartans Juniors compete against teams such as the Farnham Knights, Kent Exiles and Sussex Thunder in an 8-a-side format for Under-19 teams in the South Division.
Their season opens at home to South London Renegades at Hannakins Farm with an 11am kick-off.
Spartans Juniors head coach Steve Mitchell said: “It’s fantastic for us to be able to compete at Junior and Youth levels in 2014. The Spartans can trace our routes back to youth football in the 1990s, so our entire organisation is very proud to be able to compete once again at this level.”
The full junior schedule can be confirmed as
May 11: South London Renegades, Hannakins Farm, 11am
May 18: at East Kent Mavericks
May 31: Berkshire Renegades, Hannakins Farm, 2:30pm
June 29: at Sussex Thunder
July 20: Farnham Knights, Hannakins Farm, 2:30pm
July 27: at Kent Exiles
