National League: Cardiff 4 Raiders 1
Understrength Raiders returned empty-handed from their long trip to Wales after conceding three late goals last night.
Hit by suspensions to David Oliver, Billy and Charlie Phillips, Shaun Yardley and JJ McGrath, following their derby fracas with Chelmsford six days earlier, their threadbare 10-man squad fell behind after nine minutes against the Devils.
But they drew level with a goal from AJ Smith, assisted by player-coach Danny Marshall and Frankie Harvey, in the 34th minute and looked on course for a battling point, until Dan Peters was ejected with a match penalty for boarding.
The home side regained their lead on the powerplay at 51:49 and, as tiring Raiders pushed forward in search of another equaliser, added a third goal two minutes later before beating man of the match Euan King for a fourth time with just one second left on the clock.
Raiders return to their temporary Lee Valley base tonight (Sunday, 7.30pm) to welcome Streatham for a London derby and should welcome back those who missed the action in Cardiff.
They fought back from four goals down to earn a point from a 5-5 tie when they met the Redskins in Brixton recently and reports suggest Raiders could have another new face in their line-up this evening.
