Romford’s Elena Sheridan was celebrating this week after being named in England’s swimming squad for the Commonwealth Games.

The former St Edwards pupil, now training at the British Swimming Centre in Loughborough, won silver in the women’s 200m butterfly at the National Championships in Glasgow to earn her spot.

And the Romford Town ace will return to the Scottish city as part of a 39-strong party in July, led by captain Fran Halsall.

England’s Chef de Mission Jan Paterson said: “This is a really exciting squad of swimmers who will be looking to continue the fine tradition their sport has of performing well under the flag of St George at the Commonwealth Games.

“I’d like to congratulate them all on their selection, welcome them to Team England and wish them all the very best for their final preparations leading to Glasgow.”

Romford Town’s Amy Marren missed out as only a few disability events are included on the Commonwealth Games programme, but the Hall Mead pupil will head to the IPC European Championships in Holland in late July.
