Borough crowns badminton best

Abbs Cross School were crowned Havering champions after a tense Year 10/11 boys final with Bower Park.
The two squads met at Emerson Park last week, having come through an earlier round in November.
And it proved a thrilling contest, with Abbs taking the first game by a 15-12 margin.
Bower Park battled back to win the second game, 15-8, and took the lead after winning the third, 15-6.
But Abbs Cross set up a decider by winning the fourth game, 15-14, and kept their nerve in another closely-fought affair to triumph 15-13.
These two schools could meet in the next round of the National competition at Hornchurch Sport Centre next Tuesday (February 21).
The Year 10/11 girls title went to a very strong Hall Mead team, who won all five of their games against Coopers Company & Coborn.
But Coopers came out on top in the Year 7-9 competition, beating a spirited Frances Bardsley squad.
They were made to work hard in one of the games, before winning 15-14, and went on to complete a 5-0 margin of victory to clinch the borough title.
Coopers were awarded the boys title, after Albany withdrew.
All finalists will be in action again on Tuesday, fighting for the chance to progress to the regional rounds of the Center Parcs-sponsored competition.
Kevin Mitchell has high hopes that his dream fight, a clash with WBO lightweight title-holder Ricky Burns, will take place at West Ham United’s Upton Park ground on the night of July 14.
