Shenfield High 2 Chelmsford City 0
Shenfield High School’s academy side remain unbeaten in the South East Youth Conference League after a well-earned win over Chelmsford.
The wind was a big factor in the game but Chelmsford settled earlier and produced several good chances, only to be denied by some outstanding goalkeeping and some errant finishing.
A strong run by midfielder Liam Smith saw him take on three Chelmsford players, but nothing came of the following shot.
Andy Freeman ghosted through the visiting defence on several occasions and was Shenfield’s biggest threat but the first half ended with the scoreline still blank.
The second half started with Shenfield again dominating possession and after 10 minutes they broke the deadlock after some great inter-play down the left side from Freeman, Yeshaya Lomotey and Ben Matthews.
Freeman eventually crossed into the box for Smith to divert past the Colchester keeper.
Chelmsford applied more pressure in a bid to get back into the game but Shenfield’s defence were well organised, as Gregan, Witherspoon, Mathews and George Pratt broke down several threatening attacks and also set up good counter attacking opportunities.
Shenfield doubled their lead from one such attack as Josh Norman sent a long-range shot into the bottom corner, giving the Chelmsford keeper no chance.
Despite throwing players forward in the closing 10 minutes, Chelmsford could not make any impact as Shenfield sealed the points.
