Football and basketball squads shine
Shenfield High School’s Year 7 girls were crowned five-a-side football champions of Brentwood at a recent competition.
They beat St Martin’s (6-0), Beckett Keys (2-0) and Brentwood Ursuline (2-1) at the event staged at Brentwood County High School.
And they saw off St Martin’s again, by a 5-0 margin, to ensure top spot.
Coach Sharley Smith said: “The girls love their football and this was a great opportunity for the girls to practice ahead of their regional tournament at London Soccer Dome next Friday.
“All the girls played fantastically demonstrating good teamwork and FairPlay as always.”
The year 7 girls basketball squad are through to the Essex Cup semi-finals after winning all three of their group matches.
They have beaten Boswells (57-49), Maltings Acacemy (47-19) and Greensward Academy (47-40) en route to the last four and Smith added: “The girls have done so well to get so far with none of them having previous playing experiences before arriving at Shenfield.
“With so much to learn the girls have trained so hard and improved every match, led by captain Sadie Kirrane and guards Sophie Clark and Ellen Hoad.”
Shenfield are set to face St Martin’s once again for a place in the county final.
