National Cup: Bridge Academy 0 Shenfield High 13
Shenfield High School’s under-13 girls cruised into the next round of the National Cup with an emphatic victory.
They made the short trip up the A12 to take on Bridge Academy without key midfielder Sophie Nyiro, but were 2-0 up inside seven minutes.
Shenfield battled hard against inexperienced Bridge rivals, but often found it hard to connect passes they would usually complete with ease.
Nonetheless they led 6-0 at half-time, which enabled goalkeeper Sophie Clark to come out onto the pitch in the second half.
Clark made a fine impression, scoring two excellent goals, as Shenfield moved 12-0 up with 15 minutes to play.
Coach Sharley Smith set the girls a target of scoring from outside the box or with their head and Shannan Drewe duly obliged with a long-range screamer as six different players made it onto the scoresheet.
Ellen Hoad led the way with her third hat-trick of the year as Shenfield set up a meeting with local rivals St Martin’s.
Christine Ohuruogu and Mo Farah have been nominated for the BBC Sports Personality of the Year.
