Under-13 girls reach county final

Shenfield High School’s under-13 girls booked a place in the Essex Cup final with a convincing 8-1 win over King John.

Disappointed to have bowed out of the National Cup at the quarter-final stage, they took the lead within five minutes of the start through Chloe eastwell.

Kirstie Jackson volleyed home a second, when a defensive clearance landed kindly for her on the edge of the box, and Shannan Drewe converted Amy Morton’s cross to make it 3-0 after 15 minutes.

King John hit back from a rare attack, but Drewe grabbed her second on the stroke of half-time to restore the three-goal cushion.

Shenfield rang the changes during the interval, but continued to dominate and extended their lead as Drewe set up Morton.

Drewe completed her hat-trick from Jackson’s through ball and an excellent cross from Sophie Clark was coolly slotted home by Ellen Hoad for number seven.

Shenfield completed their tally in the final minute as Jackson fired another excellent volley home.

Teacher Sharley Smith said: “The girls have had an excellent season and must be truly proud of what they have achieved.

“The excellent attitude and determination that has been shown by all girls in every game has been fantastic.

“The girls have been a real credit and great ambassadors for Shenfield High School, the talent in the squad is very special but the girls do not rely on this alone, they train hard and play hard and this is testament to the unprecedented success they have achieved this season.”

Shenfield will face Highams Park in the final, but the date and location are still to be confirmed.
