Sanders Draper School in Hornchurch hosted a pair of sports competitions for local primary schools recently.

Hacton, Suttons, Scott and Scargill Junior were invited to a netball event and played a round-robin tournament on a chilly day.

Scargill came out on top, ahead of second-placed Scotts, with Suttons in third and Hacton in fourth place.

Certificates and medals were handed out to all by PE teacher Leah Humphries, who said: “All the girls played exceptionally well and really enjoyed the morning and were cheered on by their parents.

”The pupils loved the netball competition and all made a great deal of progress throughout the matches played.”

Five local schools took part in a five-a-side football competition, with a total of 20 matches played in all.

The action took place in the sports hall, due to bad weather, and Hacton took the honours this time, ahead of Scotts, Suttons, RJ Mitchell and Elm Park.

Humphries added: “The teams who were not playing waited patiently on the sidelines and cheered on those on the pitch.

“The boys were very competitive and fought hard to win their match for their school and some tremendous goals were scored.

”It was wonderful to see such competitiveness and team spirit. All the boys increased their skills throughout the matches and it was brilliant to see them all so involved and enjoying themselves. Both events were very successful.”
