Redden Court’s year eight girls fought back from three goals down to draw an exciting football friendly with Albany.

The match was played at a high tempo, with both sides showing excellent commitment and team spirit.

But a strong and powerful Albany team raced into a 2-0 lead inside the first 15 minutes as Redden Court struggled to get out of their own half.

Some positive play by Katie Hawkes, who broke from midfield, helped halve the deficit as she released Katrina Gilding to slot home against the run of play.

But Albany capitalised on a loose ball on the edge of the box to make it 3-1 and, with their confidence now soaring, added a fourth before the interval.

Redden Court remained in positive spirits during the break and pulled another goal back after the restart as Josie East netted from the right.

Resilient Redden Court began to pass the ball well and attack often, with substitute Alannah Jefferies chipping the Albany keeper to make it 4-3.

A good finish by Demi Jobson levelled the scores with five minutes left and solid performances from Grace Roberts and Louise Banham-Scott ensured Redden Court’s defence would not be breached again.

Squad: Josie East, Alannah Jefferies, Lucy-Christina Spiteri, Louise Banham-Scott, Freya Duffy (captain), Kristy Robinson (vice-captain), Katie Hawkes, Grace Roberts, Amber Dowling-Doyle, Demi Jobson, Amy Nash, Alice Dickson, Yasemin Beser, Katrina Gilding, Charlotte Simms, Charlotte Forte.
