Friendly: Hall Mead 2 Redden Court 5
Redden Court’s under-14 girls football squad produced a superb overall team performance to beat their Hall Mead rivals in the first fixture of the new season last Friday.
Both teams showed commitment and dedication to play football the right way, despite difficult playing conditions.
And Hall Mead gained the upper hand early on, scoring twice inside the opening 10 minutes.
Redden Court showed great resilience to pull the score back to 2-2 with goals from Emily Diwell and Sophie Sands, who were both outstanding on the night.
And the visitors were unlucky not to score a third before the half-time break with Diwell hitting the post from 18 yards and Freya Duffy getting into a great position, only to slot the ball wide.
Redden Court began the second half confidently and kept possession well, but the Hall Mead keeper showed great bravery to deny Sands soon after the restart.
And the Hall Mead custodian also produced an excellent save to deny Katie Hawkes and keep the scores level.
With the wind behind them, Redden Court were able to maintain pressure on the home defence and eventually took the lead through Sands.
And after Sands completed her first hat-trick for the school, Diwell added a fifth to round off the scoring as year seven debutants Kristy Robinson and Grace Roberts impressed with solid performances in defence to keep Hall Mead at bay.
Redden Court: Courtney Clements, Emily Diwell, Freya Duffy, Charlee Harrop, Katie Hawkes, Alanah Jefferies, Demi Jobson, Faye Orton. Grace Roberts, Kristy Robinson, Emily Roofe, Sophie Sands, Beau Vaughan, Hannah Wood.
Christine Ohuruogu and Mo Farah have been nominated for the BBC Sports Personality of the Year.
