National Cup: Marshalls Park 4 Greenshaw 0
Marshalls Park’s under-15 girls booked their place in the next round of the National Cup with a comfortable win over Sutton’s Greenshaw School.
The Romford pupils had the better of the game throughout and were more fluid in their play, which led to them winning by four unanswered goals.
Greta Kurkauskaite had an excellent game at right wing and had the beating of her full-back for most of the tie, putting in some tempting crosses which nearly led to goals.
Park broke the deadlock midway through the first half when another delightful cross from Kurkauskaite found Emily Dempsey, who tucked the ball away confidently.
Greenshaw’s keeper made some fantastic saves during the first half to keep her team in it but Dempsey doubled Park’s lead before the break and completed her hat-trick after the restart.
Greenshaw were forced onto the defensive for large parts of the game but conceded only one more time when Carlie Webb then took a shot from outside the area which was deflected and lobbed over the keeper’s head.
Park coach Andrew Bezant said: “It’s great to see the girls playing so well and getting the results they deserve.
“Four goals and a clean sheet is fantastic. Lets hope we can keep this up and go on a long cup run.”
Park face a wait to find out who they will play next in the last 64.
Park: Appleyard, Tyler, Street, Barnes, Egan, Noble (captain), Webb, Kurkauskaite, Fenton, Dempsey, Fairchild, Virgo.
Christine Ohuruogu and Mo Farah have been nominated for the BBC Sports Personality of the Year.
