Year 8: Marshalls Park 5 Brittons 7
Marshalls Park’s year eight boys football team suffered their first defeat of the season after a “weird” game at the Romford school.
Having dominated the early stages Park found themselves 2-0 up inside the first 20 minutes before Brittons replied.
Harvey Jolliffe scored his second goal soon after to restore the two-goal cushion before a goalkeeping error helped Brittons back into the game.
Having lead 3-2 at half-time Park manager Paul Aylett looked for his side to not concede in the first 10 minutes of the second half.
But the game was then spun on its head as Brittons, helped by some sloppy defending from Park, went on a goal spree.
Brittons were 7-3 up with eight minutes to go before Jolliffe pounced at the back post to complete his hat-trick and Billy Allen added another consolation.
But Park will have to perform better as they look ahead to their next Essex and national cup fixtures.
Aylett said: “We missed Charlie Moore in midfield, which didn’t help, but Brittons deserved the win.
“The lads need to learn from this loss, and come out performing better over the next few games.
“Harvey Jolliffe was outstanding and it is rare that someone scores a hat trick on the losing team. We will come back stronger, I’m certain.”
Marshalls are due to visit Little Ilford in an Essex Cup tie tonight (Thursday), while the year 10 squad visit Davenant in the county competition on Monday and then host Shenfield High in the National Cup on Wednesday (October 2).
The year nine squad begin their Havering Cup campaign against Bower Park the following week.
