Havering Cup: Gaynes 2 Marshalls Park 8
Marshalls Park’s year seven boys eased to a convincing win at Gaynes in their first Havering Cup tie of the season.
The visitors started well, producing some good passing, and saw their early possession rewarded with a goal from Billy Owen.
Gaynes hit back, though, to score two quick goals and turn things around before Marshalls made changes to their midfield and steadied themselves.
Tommy Moxham levelled from Mackenzie Driscoll’s corner and Marshalls began to switch play from side to side, adding well-deserved goals from Blair and Begu.
Owen struck again early in the second half to make it 5-2 and Marshalls settled into a confident display of passinng.
Upminster’s Gaynes kept pushing forward lookinng for a way back into the tie but Marshalls capitalised to add three more goals on the counter-attack.
Teacher Paul Aylett said: “Well done boys, a good team performance with goals from a variety of positions.
“Man of the match was Billy Owen who showed great skill in a variety of situations and got a brace for his efforts.”
Marshalls Park’s year 10 squad meet Shenfield in a National Cup tie and also have a Havering Cup assignment, while the year nines are in National Cup action against Islington’s St Mary Magdalene Academy.
Christine Ohuruogu and Mo Farah have been nominated for the BBC Sports Personality of the Year.
