Natwest Cup action for local pupils
Campion School’s 1st XV will look to take another step in rugby’s Natwest Cup when they entertain Davenant today (Wednesday, 2.30pm).
The Hornchurch pupils defied illness and injuries to battle past Dagenham’s Robert Clack in the previous round, by a slender 17-14 margin, and go into this week’s tie on the back of a tough weekend outing.
Teacher Mike McDarby said: “We are expecting a tricky match against Davenant. The boys had a real battle on Saturday with KCS Wimbledon who are one of the form 1st XV’s in the country.
“They lost a tight match 19-10 after leading at half-time but the boys are working hard and growing in belief that they can take on the biggest and best schools in the country.
“We hope to see another improved performance against Davenant, particularly the accuracy of our attack.”
Coopers Coborn are due to take on Colchester RGS, while Brentwood County High visit St Joseph’s, Ipswich.
Campion’s under-15s play host to their Felsted rivals on Thursday, as Robert Clack visit KEGS Chelmsford.
Christine Ohuruogu and Mo Farah have been nominated for the BBC Sports Personality of the Year.
