Natwest Cup: Campion 64 Davenant 0
Campion School’s under-18s eased into the next round of the Natwest Cup with an emphatic win over Davenant yesterday.
The Hornchurch pupils, previous winners of the competition when it was known as the Daily Mail Cup, had battled to a 17-14 win at Dagenham’s Robert Clack in the previous round.
But they had few problems brushing aside Davenent, running up 64 unanswered points at Wingletye Lane.
Michael Hogan, Danny Mayling and Callum Whitcombe scored two tries apiece, with Joe Heavey, Michael Ogunwole, Jordan D Costa and Billy Mullen also touching down.
Matt Meehan converted seven of Campion’s 10 tries to complete the scoring and teacher Mike McDarby said: “The boys will keep working hard for some tougher challenges that lay ahead.
“They are starting to see the benefits of their hard work and hopefully we can keep improving.”
Campion are now due to host the winners of the third round tie between Seevic College and Westcliff High School after half-term.
The under-15s are due to host Felsted today (Thursday) and victory could set them up for a derby meeting with local rivals Coopers Coborn in the next round, should they beat the winners of the tie between William Edwards and Westcliff.
Christine Ohuruogu and Mo Farah have been nominated for the BBC Sports Personality of the Year.
