Shenfield High's under-12 girls are into the last eight of the National Cup

Shenfield High School’s under-12 girls booked a place in the quarter-finals of the National Cup with victory over Royal Russell.

Trailing to a single goal at half time, despite dominating possession, they came out for the second half with more intensity and levelled when Ellie Moore struck 20 minutes fromm time.

Royal Russell, an independent school from Croydon, regained the lead on a rate attack, but Moore equalised for a second time when her shot was blocked by a hand and she slotted in from the penalty spot.

Shenfield then claimed their winner with 10 minutes left when Elise Jennings beat her marker and fired into the top corner.

Royal Russell pushed forward in the closing stages but Shenfield held firm to secure their progress.

And they will look to match the achievements of the year seven boys’ team, who won their National Cup semi-final before the Easter break at Northampton Grammar.
