Girls football squad end season on high
Shenfield High School’s under-13 girls ended another memorable season with success in the Mid-Essex Cup final.
Having competed in a National Cup quarter-final last year, the squad have continued their fine form in 2013/14 to again reach the last eight.
Shenfield netted 61 goals in six ties, thanks to the attacking threats of Shannan Drewe, Sophie Nyiro and Ellen Hoad, before losing out to eventual winners Thomas Estley in Leicestershire.
But they proved dominant again on the local scene, bouncing back from their national disappointment to beat Moulsham 4-1 in the Essex Cup semi-finals.
Maizi Garwood and Chloe Eastwell proved dominant in the final against Shoeburyness as Shenfield romped to an emphatic 10-0 triumph, before they eased to a 6-1 win over Ursuline to add the Mid-Essex Cup silverware.
Several members of the squad also played up for the under-14 side, which also enjoyed a fine run in the National Cup and only lost in extra time to Highams Park in the Essex Cup final at Brentwood.
Team coach Jamie Rigg said: “These girls are a pleasure to work with. They are dedicated to their sport and especially their football.
“We will all work even harder next season to go at least one round further in the National Cup and hope to retain our Essex title.”
