School claims third Havering title in a row
Redden Court’s year nine boys basketball team completed a Havering hat-trick at Drapers Academy last night.
Borough champions for the past two years, they added the under-14 cup title with victory St Edwards.
A well contested first quarter ended with Redden Court 18-10 up before they showed their strength in the next period to overpower Saints.
Redden Court restricted their rivals to just two more points, while scoring freely at the other end of the court to move 32-12 ahead by half time.
That left Saints with a mountain to climb in the second half and Redden Court were in no mood to let slip.
Drawing inspiration from their recent exploits in the National Cup, Redden Court continued to dominate and eventually secured victory by a 65-40 margin.
Captain Jed Roofe claimed the silverware on behalf of his teammates squad after the final buzzer and teacher Anthony Henry paid tribute to the entire squad.
He said: “There were massive performances all over the court.
“The team have really pulled it together over the last few games and go into the next round of the National Cup with lots of enthusiasm and confidence.”
Redden Court, who are representing Essex on the national stage, are waiting to see who their next opponents will be, as they face the winners of a tie between Northamptonshire and Nottinghamshire, which is due to be played on March 21.
Squad: Jed Roofe, Daniel Ogoro, Dan Parker, Steve Banham-Scott, Jack Duggins, Dan Francis, Charlie Haddon, Enock Sagonile, Connor Hartwell, James Sandon.
