Girls football squad enjoy West Ham experience

Redden Court’s girls football squad gave a good account of themselves at the West Ham United Community Sport six-a-side tournament at Beckton before the half-term break.

Eight students from years seven and eight were selected to compete in the prestigious event, the winners of which go on to represent West Ham at the Etihad Stadium in Manchester.

And they fought back from conceding two early goals in their first match to earn a 2-2 draw, with Demi Jobson and Josie East netting in an exciting finish.

Redden Court fell to 2-0 and 3-0 defeats against tough opposition in their next two matches, though, despite a brave display from goalkeeper Katie Hawkes and missed out on the final stages.

Teacher Jenny Canty said: “Although the girls did not qualify this year, they had an excellent experience and are looking forward to taking part in this excellently run tournament next year.”

Squad: Josie East, Alanah Jefferies, Louise Banham-Scott, Demi Jobson, Katie Hawkes, Freya Duffy, Kristy Robinson, Grace Roberts.
