Bower Park Academy’s under-15 handball teams are looking for sponsorship for next month’s National finals.

The boys’ and girls’ teams were both crowned East of England champions while representing Essex in Cambridge recently.

After winning four of their five group games, the boys produced their strongest performance in the final to beat Stevenage’s Samuel Whitbread 6-2.

And the girls won all five of their group games, before coming from 2-0 down against Thurston Academy (Bury St Edmunds) in their final for a 4-2 victory.

That secured trips to Worcester on June 9, while the under-13 girls play their finals a day later, and PE teacher Chris Baker said: “I’m looking for sponsorship to get some tracksuit tops. Right Development Foundation have given us £100 to start. Tops cost about £30 each, all badged with sponsor and names on, and we have about 30 players.

“Bower Park has three out of four teams in the National finals which is unbelievable and must make us one of the strongest academies in the whole country for handball.”
