Skipper happy with improved performances in recent weeks.

Old Cooperians captain John Woodhall is keen for his side to build on their morale-boosting first win of the season when they make the short trip to local rivals Campion.

Coopers picked up a 17-10 victory against Braintree in their London Two North East basement battle last weekend to build on some recent impressive performances.

And Woodhall hopes the maiden success, courtesy of tries from James Perkins, Michael Dennis and a converted Luke Taylor effort, can be the springboard for his outfit.

“It’s great to get over the winning line,” said Woodhall. “ It has certainly been coming after improved performances recently, but I’m a bit disappointed we didn’t get the bonus point in the end.

“However, we just needed the win to give us that bit of confidence going into what should be a great game this weekend.”

Coopers and Campion have enjoyed many battles in the last few seasons, with both earning back-to-back promotions to reach London Two North East.

And having won 15-8 at Cottons Park last season, Woodhall is eager for a repeat.

He added: “Credit to Campion, they have been brilliant this season.

“We know it will be a great game and if we approach it with the right mentality we know we can do well, having won there last season.”
