Herons went down 24-21 away from home on Saturday
David Wiggins admitted to having ‘complete frustration’ after Wanstead suffered a 24-21 defeat at Romford & Gidea Park in London Two North East.
The Herons had hoped to build on a fine opening-day win at home the previous weekend when they made the trip to Crow Lane last Saturday.
Instead, the Roding Lane North club endured their first defeat of the season after losing a close game.
And director of rugby Wiggins was left to reflect on a disappointing afternoon for Wanstead, particularly in the first half.
“We were without three first-team players which, while it isn’t a reason for losing, did not help us with our continuity,” he said
“It was just one of those afternoons unfortunately. We were 17-6 down at half-time and I asked the team how many points we had given Romford; their answer was we had given them 17.
“We dominated the game in the latter stages of the second half, but Romford’s defence was strong and kept us out.
“There is a sense of complete frustration for us, but credit to Romford for taking their chances and we have to use this as a lesson to learn from.”
