Our guide to the weekend’s fixtures
London Div 1N
Romford & GP v Colchester (2pm)
Park picked up another away bonus point at Basildon last weekend, but coach Mark Collins wanted more.
Having seen his side edged out at Brentwood and Eton Manor before Christmas – and thumped by runaway leaders Bury in their first outing of 2013 – he was hoping to snap the losing run against lowly Basildon.
But a 12-5 defeat made it four losses in a row and now high-flying Colchester arrive at Crow Lane having run out 52-19 winners when the sides met earlier in the season.
Collins is forced to make changes to his side once again, due to work commitments and injury, but knows what his men have to avoid.
“Colchester are a good counter-attacking side, as they showed at their place. We kicked it down their throats and they returned it with interest,” he said.
London Div 3NE
Norwich v Upminster
Upminster are putting together a nice little run at present to keep their promotion hopes well and truly alive.
Their 40-8 triumph against Wisbech at Hall Lane last weekend was their fifth win in succession and included tries from Jamie Pavitt, Dan Cuerden, Tony Norton, Nico Maivuya and Grant Lowe.
They are set to make the long trip to third-placed Norwich, having won 38-15 when the two sides met in early October.
Another success could see Scott Murphy’s men move up to second, but they will have to be at their best as the Norfolk club are unbeaten on their own turf this term, notching up six wins in a row since their opening-day draw with Cantabrigians.
