Our guide to the weekend’s rugby fixtures
London Division 1N
Beaconsfield v Romford & GP
Romford had to settle for a bonus point in their home defeat against Letchworth last weekend.
It was a fifth reverse in their last six outings, but four have yielded some return, at least, for Mark Collins and his men.
The exception to the rule was a fine 22-13 home win over Colchester two weeks ago and Park certainly need no more incentive for this weekend’s action.
They slumped to a 39-5 home defeat when Beaconsfield visited Crow Lane in October, when Collins admitted ill discipline cost his side dearly.
“We got destroyed in the first 20 minutes,” he said. “Beaconsfield kicked five penalties. It didn’t matter where they were, it was a case of ‘thank you very much’.”
London Division 3NE
Upminster v South Woodham Ferrers
Upminster welcome table-topping South Woodham to Hall Lane, having returned to winning ways with a hard-fought triumph at Harlow last weekend.
Niko Maivuya and Will Larbey touched down in the first half, with Sean Davis and Dave Staples going over in the second period in a 26-22 success.
And Upminster will be looking to set the record straight having fallen to a slender defeat in their earlier meeting this season, when South Woodham claimed a converted try and a 22-18 victory.
Essex Division 1
Billericay v Old Cooperians
Coopers romped to a convincing win over basement boys Burnham at St Mary’s Lane last weekend.
The old boys ran in 10 tries in a 68-18 success, but can expect a tougher time of things against old rivals Billericay at WIllowbrook.
Campion v Bancroft
Table-topping Campion maintained their 100 per cent record as they notched up their 12th successive win at Millwall last weekend.
But they were made to work hard for victory when these two sides met in a feisty adffair in November.
Rob Kyle, Mike Ashmore and Matt Slade touched down that day in a 19-8 success.
County Championship Division Two day 2: Glamorgan 231 Essex 343-9
