St Mary’s Lane club collected a 38-24 success on Saturday

Pat Reed believes Old Cooperians showed they are up and running for the season with a 38-24 win at home to Barking in London Three Essex.

The St Mary’s Lane club were beaten at London Borough of Havering rivals Campion in their opening game last weekend, but responded in style to defeat the Gale Street club.

Coops collected all five points on offer in beating Barking and head coach Reed was pleased his side grabbed their first victory of the term.

“It was nice for us to get off the mark and I feel our season has started now,” said Reed.

“It was a vast improvement on the previous week and I think it showed I was right in saying the game against Campion was almost like another pre-season outing for us.

“Players got minutes under their belts in that game that they hadn’t got in pre-season, and that allowed us to give a really good account of ourselves against Barking.

“There were times when we looked like we were getting back to how we played at the end of last season, which was pleasing.”
