Romford Ravens Ladies became the first team ever to retain the National Cup as they beat Teddington Antlers 31-12.

They headed to Lichfield RFC in Staffordshire and despite facing a bigger pack, the Ravens girls showed great desire to secure the victory.

After a slow opening 15 minutes, Lyndsay Whitely sped down the wing to open the scoring.

Ravens started to gain theascendancy and after a number of passages of play, Vicky Sullivan drove over the line to extend their lead.

Jenny Mugglestone took advantage of a Teddington fumble to add another score and Whitely converted to make the half-time score 17-0.

Both teams grafted hard, but it was the Ravens who added to their lead. Great forward runs by Jo Williams and Sullivan pushed Teddington back.

Carmen Vaughan switched the play to Heather Purcell who went over for try number four.

Romford brought on fresh legs, but it was Teddington who scored the next try to give themselves a glimmer of hope.

But Whitely broke through two tackles to score her second try of the game, ending the game as a contest in the process.

There was still time for Teddington to go over for another score, but it proved in vain and it was the Ravens who were left to pick up the trophy.
