Club continue pre-season preparations

Old Cooperians continue their preparations for the new London Two North East season with a friendly away at Barking tonight (Friday, 7.30pm).

The Upminster club was promoted for a second season in succession last spring and has added new recruits from the local area in the hope of regularly fielding three sides this term.

Pat Reed and Andy Pudney coach the squad, with John Woodhall continuing as first team captain as Marcus Docker and Sean Kavanagh lead the other teams.

Pudney said: “Pre-season has gone well, despite an early start, and all the players have bought into it.

“The club is growing but not resting on its laurels and we’re looking to improve further. We all realise the level of our task ahead and all are committing to the task.

“Club spirit is at an all-time high and all are pulling in the same direction, from the school to the players, to the coaches and committee.

“The new recruits are all local, young exciting talents and understand the club’s philosophy on and off the field. And with all that’s going on and the buzz around the club we will regularly put out three sides.

“We are currently strengthening our links with Coopers Coborn School so, with the new intake of sixth-formers, our club will continue to strive onwards and upwards.”

Ryan Leader captains the side tonight as Woodhall is unavailable.
