Crow Lane outfit will look to get back to winning ways this weekend

Romford & Gidea Park captain Steve Barfoot admits his side need to start picking up wins as they look to stay in London One North this season.

North Walsham come to Crow Lane tomorrow (Saturday) with Romford desperate to register a victory after four consecutive losses.

Woodford and Ipswich are below them in the league standings, but Barfoot is calling on his side to start moving up the table.

“We don’t know how many teams go down this season so we need as many points as possible,” he said.

“Ideally we would like five this weekend, but we just need to get as many as we can and basically go all out for the win against North Walsham.”

Park will be boosted by Vikings awful record on the road over the past few seasons.

They have only managed one away success in seven outings this campaign, though that did come on January 3 when they defeated Luton.

Barfoot added: “North Walsham do normally struggle on the road.

“Anything can happen this weekend, but they did beat Luton away from home.

“I guess Luton is a bit closer to them so maybe they decided they could all make that one.

“It must take them about two and a half hours to get to each game every other Saturday, which isn’t easy.”

Park will look to bounce back at Crow Lane following last weekend’s disappointing defeat at Ruislip.

Barfoot wasn’t impressed with the 64-26 loss and felt their slow start cost them.

“We didn’t really turn up in the first half,” he said.

“Ruislip scored a lot of their points in the first half and the players didn’t listen.”

Tries from Ben Lawrence, Paul Bradley, George Robertson and Dan Harnett earned a bonus point, though.

Barfoot added: “To get the bonus point was a positive, so we are happy that we scored four tries on Saturday.

“We would like to get back on track this weekend and we need to get some points.”
