Romford Greyhounds will chase top honours at the 2013 BAGS Track Championship Grand Final at Sheffield’s Owlerton Stadium on Monday.

The event marks the culmination of a £200,000 inter-track competition, with Romford one of six tracks represented in 10 races over various distances.

The first race is at 2.08pm and all the action will be screened live on the Bags/SIS service into the UK’s betting shops.

But entry to the track is free, as the six regional winners – Romford, Hall Green, Hove, Newcastle, Peterborough and Sheffield – go for glory.

Newcastle are the defending champions but the bookmakers reckon they face tough opposition from the hosts Sheffield.

The trophy is modelled on football’s Champions League silverware and Tom Kelly, BAGS chairman, said: “This is a fantastic showcase for greyhound racing and has been a great competition, with rivalry between the tracks something quite unique in the greyhound calendar.

“Newcastle enjoyed their time in the spotlight when the final was staged in Birmingham last year, and I’m sure will be keen to keep their hands on the magnificent trophy. But it will be tough given the quality of opposition.”

Prices are available on each of the races which make up the Bags Track Championship Grand Final, plus who will be top track.

There are a host of betting opportunities with Sheffield supported by six other meetings on the Bags/SIS service with Hall Green (11.03), Monmore (11.11), Swindon (2.18), Nottingham (6.28), Yarmouth (6.33) and Romford (6.39) as greyhound racing provides punters with a pre-Xmas treat.
