National League: Bracknell 3 Raiders 5

Jakub Klima had a hand in all five Raiders goals and Michael Gray made 43 saves in a man of the match display at Bracknell last night.

Having snapped their five-game losing run with a 9-5 win over MK Thunder at Lee Valley on Saturday, Raiders travelled west to take on the Hornets, who have been a bogey team in recent years.

Billy Phillips returned to the line-up and combined with Klima in the fourth minute to help Frankie Harvey open the scoring.

But Raiders had Gray to thank as they took that lead to the lockerroom at the end of the first period, having been outshot 12-6 in the opening 20 minutes.

Captain Grant Taylor and Bracknell’s Ilya Antonov both sat out 2+10 penalties for checking from behind during the first session and the hosts levelled soon after the restart, though, as Daniel Hughes found a way through.

But Raiders regained the lead through Tom Davis and moved 3-1 up when Klima netted his first goal of the night, off a second assist from Phillips.

Hornets hit back with 10 minutes remaining as Antonov struck, but Raiders restored their two-goal cushion barely a minute later as Davis set up Klima for his second.

Bracknell, beaten 9-2 in Cardiff the night before, refused to roll over and cut the gap to one once more through import Peter Jasik at 54:54.

But after withdrawing goalie David Wride for an extra skater in a late bid to force an equaliser, Hornets conceded a fifth as Klima found the empty net to complete his hat-trick.

Scorers, Bracknell: Hughes 1+1 Antonov 1 Jasik* 1 Thompson 0+1 Jordan 0+1.

Raiders: Klima* 3+2 Davis 1+1 Harvey 1 B Phillips 0+2 Marshall 0+1 Taylor 0+1.

Shots on goal: Wride (Bracknell, 58:50) 22 Gray (Raiders) 46.

Penalty minutes: Bracknell 28 Raiders 24.
