Our guide to the weekend’s fixtures
Saturday
National League Div 1
Streatham v Romford Raiders (5.30pm)
Table-topping Raiders face a tricky return to action after a blank weekend.
Danny Marshall’s men were left unemployed as the Isle of Wight and Chelmsford instead contested this season’s two-legged South East Trophy final, with the ‘other’ Raiders skating to a 7-5 aggregate success to lift the silverware.
Streatham, meanwhile, were treating their biggest crowd of the season at Brixton to an 8-4 success over Invicta, where Jakub Klima had a hand in seven of their goals.
Klima’s fellow import Michal Oravec made his home debut for the Redskins, who chased David Wride out of the Dynamos net after shipping six goals on 20 shots.
Former Raider Glen Jackson took over between the pipes, but could not prevent the visitors falling to defeat.
Romford cannot afford to give the south Londoners any encouragement as they look to maintain their bid for a second successive league title.
Sunday
National League Cup
Romford Raiders v Invicta (5.15pm)
Focus turns to the cup competition on Sunday, as Raiders welcome Invicta for the second time in a fortnight.
Their recent league meeting was not short on controversy, following a late clash between Billy Phillips and Nathaniel Rose.
The duo tussled on the ice, but the bad feeling spilled over to the penalty box and then the team benches after they were ejected.
As for the main action, Juraj Huska’s hat-trick – including a sublime third goal – proved key to Romford’s 5-3 triumph.
But they need to better that and win by a three-goal margin this time to replace Invicta at the top of the group and maintain their hopes of appearing in the final.
Dynamos, well off the pace in the league, will not want to relinquish a chance of adding to their trophy cabinet, though.
And after their surprise loss at Streatham, they will be keen to put the record straight.
