Title could be decided on Sunday
Romford Raiders will do everything in their power to stop rivals Chelmsford clinching the National League title at Rom Valley Way on Sunday.
The defending champions saw their grip loosened by defeat at Invicta on Sunday, having beaten the Dynamos 24 hours earlier to secure a place in the cup final.
But David Oliver says they will fight until the last to stop Chieftains celebrating on their ice. “There’s always hope, but it’s probably going to be Chelmsford or Isle of Wight who win the league now,” he said.
“To be honest, I’d rather Isle of Wight win the league than see it go down the road. I think Chelmsford can win it this weekend when they come to us so believe me, we’ll be doing everything we can to stop them winning it in our barn.”
Chieftains clinched the play-off title in Romford to deny Raiders a treble last spring. But Oliver says they are already thinking about the post-season and setting the record straight next month.
“Our focus has to be to look forward to the play-offs,” he added. “If we can’t win the league, we’ll have to win the play-offs, but we’ll have to concentrate and work hard to get it done. We want to finish strong in our last season at the rink.”
