Youngsters ready to return

London Raiders return to National League action at Lee Valley tomorrow (Saturday) after a much-needed free weekend in their schedule.

They go into their clash with Invicta Dynamos on a 16-game losing streak before visiting Streatham on Sunday.

And two of their young British forwards are looking forward to the challenges, after enjoying some competitive action in midweek.

TJ Fillery and Jacob Ranson teamed up with friends from recreational side Westminster Statesmen to play in Vauxhall Winter Classic in south London and thoroughly enjoyed the experience.

Fillery said: “It was a wicked experience and good to play some three-on-three in a small rink and outdoors as well.

“We definitely should do it every year, but now I’m looking forward and ready for the weekend.”

Ranson, who spent three years studying and playing in Canada, added: “It was great fun going to Vauxhall – it felt like being back in Canada.

“As a team we didn’t get the best results over the six games, but it was great fun either way and brilliant to get some more ice time under my belt.

“We played six 15-minute periods and I’m looking forward to getting back on a normal ice pad for a big weekend.”

Raiders hope to have Grant Taylor in their line-up this weekend and remain in talks with several imports, with some attending recent practices.

Management committee member John Scott said: “I hope and pray the fans patience and faith in what we are trying to do will be repaid by a team capable of taking some points and avoiding a possible relegation battle at the end of the year.”
