Defenceman delighted to return to gold and blue

David Oliver has admitted he is delighted to be returning to a London Raiders jersey, following a brief spell with Streatham.

Oliver came up through the junior ranks at Romford before making his senior Raiders debut in 2007/08.

He went on to make over 250 appearances for the club, helping them to a National League and cup double in 2012, before asking for his release earlier this season and joining the Redskins.

Oliver helped the south London club to a 7-3 win against Raiders in the cup in late November, picking up an assist, after forward Frankie Harvey had followed him through the exit door and signed for Invicta.

Player-coach Danny Marshall had left his role with the team on a seven-game losing streak in early November, with import Jakub Klima, captain AJ Smith, goalie Mike Brabon and Perry Richardson also quitting.

And a youthful, understrength squad lost 12 more matches before ending the streak with a 4-2 win over Milton Keynes Thunder on Sunday.

Oliver said: “It’s great being back home. I love this club I didn’t want to go first time around.

“I went to Streatham and I haven’t got a bad word to say about the club, but it just wasn’t home.

“Now I’m lucky enough to come back and kick on with this great team that has formed under Alan Blyth in 2015.”

Raiders hope to include Oliver in their line-up when they take on Thunder again at Lee Valley on Saturday (5.30pm).

And the defenceman is hoping to help them climb up the table in 2015, adding: “I hope we get into the play-offs. We have to play Oxford twice which are the two biggest game of the season for us, but it’s just great being back!”
